Elinor Rose Williams
Mother of three, I relocated to Texas five yrs ago. Shortly after moving, my job ended. Unable to find work soon enough, my children and I ended up homeless. I was determined to make it and not return home to Florida. I went into the Samaritan Inn for 2 1/2 months. As a part of my requirements to reside there I applied for public housing. I moved into MHA and began my journey back to self sufficiency. My two year stretch of unemployment began. I served on the board of commissioners for MHA, became the President of the Resident Council, volunteered for Dv8 and was heavily involved in most groups providing a service to the residents. I was surrounded by resources and opportunities.
Four and a half years later, I am still the President of Resident Council and in the process of becoming a home owner within the next 3-6 months. I have been on my job 16 months making a decent salary.
People asks me what worked for me...it's simple. I plugged in to every opportunity being afforded to me. I serve in my church, organizations and community. I asked questions about the things I need answer to, I attend the community functions/meetings, and have a circle of friends I know God purposely put in my life to encourage, equip and support me along the way.
